Our History

Valley Carriers Trucking

Established in 1963

Valley Pulp & Sawdust Carriers (as the company was originally known) was founded in 1963 by Neil and Rita Klassen with one truck used to haul firewood and sawdust. As time went on, his four sons, Lando, Mervin, Dennis and Reg, and his one daughter, Genny, each came to work in and expand the business. Early on, Lando branched off and began his own family business, a bookstore and coffee shop in Abbotsford called the House of James.

Family Owned and Operated

Through the 1980’s and 1990’s, the four siblings supported their father and eventually led the company, growing it to a fleet of twelve trucks and approximately thirty employees. All four siblings remain involved in the business to this day.

In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, the third generation became involved in day-to-day operations, supporting the business and initiating a vision for growth and change.

In 2015, members of the third generation assumed leadership, control and direction of the company, and the company came to be known as Valley Carriers. Since that time, Valley Carriers has been listed as one of the fastest growing companies in British Columbia and in Canada in both 2017 and 2018.

When you work with us, you experience company values that are driven from our family values.

In 2017, Valley Carriers purchased Friesen Bros. Fuels in Burnaby, expanding our fleet.

True to our roots, we still provide bedding material for dairy, equestrian, and poultry farming throughout the Lower Mainland and in the interior of British Columba, but we have grown to include the transportation of wood residuals from shake and shingle mills to pulp mills.

We also supply bark mulch, soil, and other landscape supplies to many local landscape centres in BC and Washington.

We operate our own retail locations Klassen Landscape Supply in Abbotsford and Merritt, Superior Peat in Penticton, West Coast Bark Products in Burnaby and Just Mulch for one-yard bag deliveries in the Lower Mainland.

With members of the 4th generation beginning to enter the business, the Klassen family intends to continue to grow and evolve in business together for generations to come.

Our strength is found in the integrity of our faith, in hope, and in love. Thankful for our family heritage, our adventurous humility guides, and our ambition, as we diligently work as a diverse team with open-minded collaboration. With balanced determination, we drive change and pursue growth, while respecting the past and embracing the future.
